Oh how I love Mylkshakes!I would have never thought it is possible to drink an acceptable shake like that when I decided to roll with the vegan diet but thank god there is banana ice cream or cashew ice-cream that saved me. I think banana ice cream or how so many call it “nice cream” is a true hero to me. It is so healthy and so good for you! But yes, it does taste like banana. So if you don’t like bananas things could get difficult being a vegan.
Nice cream vs. Cashew ice cream
Nice cream is definitely my favorite and not only because it is much cheaper, you can also eat higher amounts of it without feeling bad. It is nothing but good for you actually. I would have to agree, that cashews are healthy too but also cost a lot more and contain a much higher amount of fat. The taste of nice cream is very intense and cashews are a lot more neutral. So if you are looking for ice cream that you can go crazy with and add other flavors to, I would recommend cashew ice cream.
Since I don’t like it too cold in my tummy, I decided to make a warm plum compote and just mix those two things together – Nice cream + Plum Compote. So good!
Vanilla Mylkshake with Cinnamon-Plum Compote
- 3 ripe bananas, frozen
- ½ small avocado
- 2 medjool dates, pits removed
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 150g plums
- 4 Tbsp water
- 3 Tbs maple syrup
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- Step 1 Add ingredients for the compote to a sauce pan and cook on high heat for 2-3 minutes. Stir and make sure nothing gets burned

Then let simmer for another 10 minutes until the plums break and compote thickens. Turn off heat and let compote cool for at least 30 min

After the compote has cooled down, add all ingredients for the mylkshake to a blender and blend until smooth, Do not overblend you want it to be still cooled and if you blend it too long, the blender usually heats up and usually ruins the mylkshake

Pour compote into a bowl, glass or bottle and enjoy with a spoon
